Yard fountains are a quaint reminder of simpler times, when everyone had a hand pump in their yard which they used daily.

One option is to pour a concrete pad into the ground and sink the bolts into the concrete (illustration A). The pad may be places on its own in the yard or blended into a patio made of paving stones. Existing patios may also be drilled for mounting the base.
Another option is to fasten the base to a railroad tie or garden timber(illustration B). If you wish to install a foundation on your deck, it's possible to bolts these into wooden decking (illustration C), on the stairs, or even the railing.
